Law enforcement officials have charged a 26-year-old resident of Chernihiv Oblast with the rape of his 13-year-old and 10-year-old stepdaughters, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported on May 27.

Investigations have shown that the 26-year-old man lived in the Nizhyn district of Chernivih Oblast with his wife and her two daughters, aged 13 and 10. According to law enforcement, the suspect raped his 13-year-old stepdaughter in their home in April 2026. The following month, the suspect committed the same crime with the second girl while on a fishing trip together.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the village head raised concerns over the stepfather’s behavior, noting that he spent a lot of time alone with the children. She informed the children’s mother of her suspicions. Law enforcement officers were also called to the girls’ school, where the children disclosed what happened.

The head of the Nizhyn District Prosecutor’s Office announced that the man is suspected of committing particularly serious crimes against the sexual freedom and sexual inviolability of minors under Part 4 and Part 6 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigators have detained the suspect and placed him in custody. He faces life imprisonment. The children are receiving psychological support.

In April, authorities announced that a 41-year-old Kyiv resident was sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually abusing his underage stepdaughter over several years. Investigators said the man began living with the woman and her daughter when the child was four years old and started committing the offenses when she was eight.
