Czechia bans entry to Russian diplomats without accreditation

Lipavský said he was the initiator of the decision.

“Today, the government banned the entry of Russian diplomats and holders of service passports who do not have national accreditation from the Czech Republic. This measure applies at international airports,” he wrote.

He also emphasized that the number of sabotage operations is increasing and “we will not take risks because of agents under diplomatic cover.”

“We are setting an example for other countries, and I will continue to push for the strictest measures at the level of the entire Schengen. We will protect the Czech Republic,” he added.

On Sept. 15, Euractiv reported that EU countries are considering restricting the issuance of tourist visas for Russians and monitoring the movement of Russian diplomats on their territory. Such measures could become part of a new sanctions package against the Kremlin expected this week.

On Sept. 15, U.S. President Donald Trump said that EU sanctions against Russia were not strict enough, stressing that Europe continues to buy Russian oil. He added that he was ready to impose his own restrictions but said European countries must strengthen their measures in line with his actions.

On Aug. 14, European Commission spokeswoman Arianna Podesta said that in September the EU could approve its 19th sanctions package against the aggressor state Russia.

The spokeswoman did not provide details about the new sanctions package. However, she emphasized that the European Union would continue to pressure Russia because it recognizes the effectiveness of sanctions.
