Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen voiced this initiative - to place orders directly in the Ukrainian defense industry - in the spring.
“When I was in Ukraine this spring to visit several defense industry enterprises in Kyiv, I saw the possibilities of supporting Ukraine by purchasing directly through the Ukrainian defense industry," he said.
"In this way, we guarantee that the equipment needed by Ukrainians at the front can be manufactured and delivered nearby. This provides some obvious logistical advantages while helping to build up Ukraine's defense industry with Ukrainian-made artillery pieces playing a central role there as a pilot project."
Bohdana's self-propelled howitzers are expected to be delivered in the coming months.
Denmark's donation was based on the Ukrainian Defense Ministry and the Strategic Development Ministries' recommendations.
Denmark's military aid
Poulsen visited Ukraine earlier this year, where he signed a letter of intent to fund donations directly from the Ukrainian defense industry.
An official agreement on cooperation between Denmark and Ukraine was concluded in June, and an agreement on the Ukrainian-made artillery purchase marks its first outcome.
The Danish government announced the 19th aid package to cover Ukraine's urgent needs, and for its defense capabilities long-term development on June 19.
The aid package combines the framework for making significant donations to the Ukrainian defense industry, additional equipment to support the Danish-provided F-16 fighter jets, and donations from the Danish MOD's own stocks.
