Denmark to spend $48 million on artillery shells for Ukraine

In a statement posted on the ministry’s website, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said he is scheduled to meet with his Estonian counterpart, Hanno Pevkur, to discuss the funds, which will be used to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine through Estonia.

"It is crucial that Denmark and our close allies continue to support Ukraine’s struggle for freedom,” said Poulsen.

“We must keep our support focused so that Ukrainians can resist Russian aggression. Any potential ceasefire must come with concrete security guarantees, and Denmark has already confirmed that we are ready to contribute to a peacekeeping mission.” 

The funds are part of a new military aid package for Ukraine, according to the ministry.

The statement also said that Denmark has approved the transfer of equipment and materials to support Ukrainian brigades. In addition, funds have already been allocated for further purchases while discussions are underway with Norway and Sweden regarding the joint transfer of armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.

On April 3, the ministry reported that the Danish government held consultations with the Foreign Policy Committee on the 25th aid package for Ukraine, worth DKK6.7 billion ($970 million). Key elements of the package include air defense systems, artillery, and financial support for Ukraine’s air force.
