Ukraine experienced a widespread disruption of online services on April 26, affecting applications such as Diia, Nova Poshta, Oschadbank, and payment terminals, due to a technical failure at the De Novo data center.

Companies confirmed the outage was not caused by a cyberattack.

Maxim Ageyev, CEO of De Novo, reported that the entire data center building lost power at 8:03 a.m. due to a malfunction during the replacement of uninterruptible power supplies. An automatic power-switching system unexpectedly blocked access to both batteries and generators, causing a 14-minute outage. By 11:00 a.m., most public cloud users had their services restored, said Ageyev.

Nova Poshta announced at 11:38 a.m. that its services were fully operational again, while Oschadbank confirmed recovery by noon, according to CEO Sergii Naumov. Naumov noted the issue affected multiple digital service providers, not just Oschadbank, and technical teams worked swiftly to resolve it.

Nova Poshta also clarified on Facebook that the disruption was due to technical issues with a contractor, not a cyberattack.

Dmytro Bakhmatskyi, De Novo’s CMO, told Economichna Pravda that the outage stemmed from a power supply issue during maintenance, ruling out a cyberattack.

Monobank co-founder Oleh Horokhovskyi initially speculated about a possible cyberattack on a major data center but later confirmed Monobank’s services were unaffected.

Verkhovna Rada cybersecurity subcommittee head Oleksandr Fediienko attributed the outage to a “human factor” at a major infrastructure facility, also emphasizing it was a technical issue, not a cyberattack.

Earlier, users reported that Diia and Nova Poshta apps failed to load, displaying error messages about data update failures.

The Kyiv City State Administration confirmed that Oschadbank’s outage disrupted contactless payment systems at metro turnstiles.

Social media posts highlighted issues with Apple Pay and Google Pay, with users unable to make card payments in stores.

Diia’s team attributed the outage to technical updates at a major data center, assuring users that services would resume shortly.
