Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy of Russian dictator
Vladimir Putin and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, said on June 5,
that Russia and the United States will sign an agreement to begin designing a tunnel
between Chukotka and Alaska.
The comments were reported by Russian state propaganda outlets.
“As for the tunnel, we will have news tomorrow: we are signing an agreement that we are continuing the design work on the tunnel; the tunnel will happen,” Dmitriev said.
Dmitriev also said he spoke June 3 with U.S. presidential
special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s
son-in-law, and that they discussed “joint economic initiatives” between the United
States and Russia. He added that, in his view, there is a “constant dialogue”
between the Kremlin and the White House because Washington “is trying to
promote peace.”
