Situation on Donetsk front

The Ukrainian Defense Forces confirmed their withdrawal from the city of Vuhledar. In a statement by Operational Command “South”, it was reported that the Russian troops, in their attempt to take the settlement at any cost, directed reserves for flank attacks, which exhausted the defense of Ukrainian units and created a threat of encirclement.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian defenders managed to halt the active Russian advance near Pokrovsk, according to Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council.

Analyzing the course of the war over the past year and the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Vuhledar, The New York Times reported on Oct. 5 that Russia is sending waves of troops without regard for losses, while Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of manpower and weapons.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Oct. 7 that the Donetsk front remains the most challenging and that Ukraine needs significant reinforcement of its capabilities on the front lines.

Analysts from DeepState monitoring project reported on Oct. 12 that Russian occupiers had advanced near Novohrodivka, Novooleksandrivka, Sukha Balka, and in Ostrovske of Donetsk Oblast.

DeepState also reported on Oct. 13 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had restored their positions near Novohrodivka.
