Russian forces targeted railway infrastructure in a massive overnight drone attack on Odesa, Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi reported on Facebook on Dec. 19.
A railway signal operator was injured when a station post was destroyed. The employee was hospitalized and is currently undergoing surgery.
Despite the damage, train traffic in the Odesa hub remains operational.
Earlier in the day, regional Governor Oleh Kipper reported that the attack damaged energy facilities and triggered fires, leaving one of the city’s largest residential areas in the Peresypsky district without electricity, water, and heat.
In total, Russian forces launched 160 attack drones of various types during the night, of which Ukrainian air defenses destroyed 108.
