Fragments of an unidentified drone were found in southern Moldova about 2 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, Moldova’s Border Police said in a statement on Telegram on March 17.

According to law enforcement, at about 9:55 a.m. they received information from local residents about a suspicious object in the village of Tudora. At the scene, debris from a drone was found in a field near the border with Ukraine.

Border police said the drone was in an “active state” and was initially believed to possibly contain an explosive device. Specialists plan to neutralize it with a controlled explosion on site. The area around the object was cordoned off to ensure the safety of local residents.

This is not the first case of drone debris being found on Moldovan territory. On Nov. 25, 2025, border police reported that one of the drones landed on the roof of a guard’s house in an orchard in the village of Cuhurestii de Jos in the Floresti district.

Following such incidents, Moldova summoned the Russian ambassador to the Foreign Ministry and handed him a note of protest.

On Nov. 29, Moldova temporarily closed its airspace for more than an hour after two drones were detected over its territory, posing a direct threat to aviation safety.

On Feb. 6, 2026, an unidentified drone was also found in the village of Sofia in the Drochia district, near the border with Ukraine.

According to media estimates, the number of drones launched by Russia toward Ukraine that ended up on Moldovan territory is approaching 20. Technical examinations showed that most of these drones were of the Gerbera type and did not contain explosive devices.
