Drone debris from Russian attack on Ukraine found in Romania, damage reported

According to the ministry, radar detected drones near Romanian airspace, prompting the launch of British Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon jets at about 2 a.m.

The Defense Ministry said residents in Tulcea county were alerted to the air threat via the RO-ALERT system.

It added that the Eurofighter Typhoon jets established radar contact with a target about 1.5 kilometers from Reni, over Ukrainian territory. Pilots were authorized to engage the drones.

Residents of the city of Galati reported at 2:31 a.m. that an object had fallen, and specialized teams and other Interior Ministry units are working at the site to conduct checks.

Preliminary assessments indicate that an outbuilding at a household and an electricity pole were damaged, with no major destruction reported. Drone debris was found at several locations in the area, and no casualties were reported, the ministry said.

Romania’s Defense Ministry strongly condemned what it described as Russia’s irresponsible actions, saying they pose a new threat to regional security and stability in the Black Sea region.

“Such incidents demonstrate the Russian Federation’s disregard for international law and endanger not only the safety of Romanian citizens but also NATO’s collective security,” the ministry said.

Russia launched a mass drone attack on Ukraine overnight on April 25.

Odesa Oblast was among the targets, where residential buildings and port infrastructure were damaged or destroyed. Two people were injured, and fires broke out but have since been extinguished.
