Drones attack one of Russia's largest oil refineries in Perm, smoke rises over Lukoil plant

Amid the attack, a plume of smoke was seen rising over the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Perm. Local authorities, however, have not officially reported any possible consequences of the attack.

In addition, temporary restrictions on arrivals and departures were imposed at Bolshoye Savino Airport in the morning because of the drone threat, Astra reported.

Air raid sirens sounded in Perm the previous day, while residents of several districts reported hearing explosions.

Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries. The plant, part of the Lukoil group, processes more than 13 million metric tons of crude oil annually and produces gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel and lubricants, among other products.

The refinery is one of the region’s key industrial facilities and one of Russia’s most technologically advanced plants, supplying fuel to both the domestic and export markets, Astra said.

On July 29, drones attacked the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery in Russia’s Perm Krai, more than 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) from the Ukrainian border, sparking a fire at the facility. According to the SBU, the strike hit a primary oil processing unit, one of the refinery’s key facilities, which can process about 13 million metric tons of crude oil annually.
