Russia reports drone attacks on Moscow and Rostov oblasts, partial blackout in Novoshakhtinsk

Moscow Oblast Governor Andrei Vorobyov claimed that one of the drones hit a residential building on Cosmonauts Boulevard in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow. He said the drone crashed into an apartment on the 14th floor, injuring five people.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, for his part, alleged that Russian air defenses shot down three drones “flying toward Moscow.” Emergency services were dispatched to the site where debris fell, he added.

The Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports temporarily suspended operations early on Oct. 24 due to the threat of unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the Telegram channel Astra.

Rostov Oblast Governor Yuri Slyusar also reported a drone attack, claiming that around 1,500 people were left without power in Novoshakhtinsk.

Slyusar, repeating Moscow’s usual narrative, said that Russian air defenses had “repelled a massive air attack.” Drones were detected overnight in nine districts of Rostov Oblast, and several fires broke out, the governor said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that its air defense forces had “intercepted” 136 drones overnight and into the morning of Oct. 24, including 34 over Rostov Oblast and only one over Moscow Oblast. As usual, the ministry did not specify how many drones actually reached their targets.
