Drones may have targeted Kazan powder factory producing Iskander components – National Security Council

According to Kostenko, the powder factory specializes in producing explosives, rocket fuels, and other components, including for the Kalibr and Iskander missiles.

“The Kazan Powder Factory is one of the ‘backbones’ of Russia’s military-industrial complex, without which the mass production of ammunition would be impossible,” Kostenko wrote on Telegram.

The press service of the Republic of Tatarstan claims that as a result of the UAV attack in Kazan on the morning of Dec. 21, eight impacts were recorded. Six drones reportedly hit buildings, and one struck an industrial site.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense claims that air defense “destroyed” three drones, while three others were “suppressed” by electronic warfare means.

Local news channels reported that at least two drones hit an elite high-rise building in Kazan, while another struck another apartment complex. Monitoring channels suggest the drones may have struck the buildings due to the actions of electronic warfare systems.

Due to the threat of a strike by attack drones on Tatarstan, several airports in Russia were closed.
