Drone attack hits Sevastopol power hub as fire erupts near Crimea airfield

Subscribers to the channel reported gunfire near the Sevastopol 330/220/110/35 kV substation starting at 1:15 a.m.

By morning, a downed drone was lying about 3 meters from the substation grounds, where personnel from Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry were working. The attack unfolded in bursts until 4 a.m., with the main phase lasting from 1:25 to 2:40 a.m.

The substation routes power from the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant and a mobile gas-turbine power plant. It was also targeted last week, although the extent of any damage remains unknown.

Crimean Wind said earlier attacks on June 24 and 25 destroyed the facility’s main transformer.

Separately, a fire was reported near the Kirovske military airfield in Crimea on Aug. 18. Warehouses and hangars containing military equipment are located nearby.

Reports on July 2, 2025, said satellite images documented the aftermath of a Ukrainian attack on the Kirovske airfield in occupied Crimea overnight on June 28. The images showed evidence of an extensive fire in helicopter parking areas and at two air defense positions. They also showed damage to infrastructure and buildings across the air base.

Ukraine’s SBU Security Service confirmed it had struck the Russian military airfield. The agency said the attack destroyed a Pantsir-S1 air defense system and three helicopters — an Mi-8, an Mi-26 and an Mi-28.

The agency also reported secondary detonations and said the strikes targeted aircraft, air defense systems, ammunition depots and drones.
