“I think there is no greater victory for Trump than to stop
the war between Russia and Ukraine,” Zelenskyy told The
Atlantic in an interview published on Feb. 12.
“For his legacy, it’s No. 1.”
Zelenskyy added the best outcome for Trump would be to see the war end before the U.S. midterm elections in November.
“The most advantageous situation for Trump is to do this before the midterms,” he said.
“Yes, he wants there to be less deaths. But if you and I are talking like adults, it’s just a victory for him, a political one.”
Earlier, Zelenskyy said the United States aims to end Russia’s war against Ukraine by early summer and would likely press the parties to meet that timetable. “Why by this summer? We understand that their domestic issues in America have an impact and will probably become even more pressing for them,” he said at the time.
A second round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia,
and the United States concluded in Abu Dhabi on Feb. 5. In a communique
published by Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation, the parties
discussed ways to implement and monitor a potential ceasefire.
