The EU has approved the EU Military
Assistance Mission (EUMAM) to train 15,000 Ukrainian troops, the Council of the
European Union announced in a Twitter post on Nov. 14.
“The European Council has launched the EU Military Assistance Mission, EUMAM, to support Ukraine in Russia’s ongoing war of aggression,” the message said.
The program envisages up to 15,000 Ukrainian military personnel being trained at facilities across the bloc.
On Oct. 17, the EU Council proposed the creation of a military training mission to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as the country defends against the Russian invasion.
The mission will operate on the territory of EU member states with its HQ in Brussels, Belgium, commanded by director of the EU Center for Military Planning and Operations, Vice Admiral Hervé Blezhan.
The mandate of the mission will initially last two years, with a $106 million budget.
