Ukraine can expect a significant expansion of military training programs for its armed forces including the gradual transfer of training from Europe to Ukraine, EU’s chief diplomat Josep Borrell stated at a meeting of EU foreign ministers today, Süddeutsche Zeitung reported on July 20.

Moving training to Ukraine is considered possible but only after a ceasefire, which "gives hope" that such a step will help deter Russia from further aggression.

Borrell also recommended allocating additional money for the supply of weapons and equipment. In particular, he wants the EU to participate in providing Ukraine with fighter jets.

Borrell also wants to assure Ukraine of greater cooperation in arms production, intelligence sharing, and even more support in demining.

Borrell's proposals are based on a statement issued by EU heads of state and government in late June, which said that the EU and its member states are ready to participate in future security commitments to ensure long-term stability in Ukraine.
