EU’s 20th sanctions package won’t directly include Rosatom, Ukrainian official says

“In the 20th package we will not see Rosatom, but we will definitely see some things indirectly connected to it. This is the maximum we can achieve at the moment,” Vlasiuk said, adding that the issue of sanctioning Rosatom remains on the agenda.

“We will continue to convince our partners that Rosatom is the same as Lukoil — there is nothing extraordinary about sanctioning it, and it is the right thing to do,” he said.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced on Oct. 23 that the bloc had approved its 19th package of sanctions against Russia. Work is now underway on the 20th package.

The EU is expected to approve the new sanctions package after the New Year holidays.

Earlier, Brussels said U.S. sanctions targeting Russia’s largest oil companies could have negative consequences for some EU member states, but the European Commission is prepared to support them.

Russia’s Lukoil has announced plans to sell its foreign assets following the U.S. sanctions.

American oil major Chevron is exploring options to acquire Lukoil’s international assets.

At the same time, Chinese and Indian banks and refineries have already begun complying with U.S. sanctions against Lukoil and Rosneft.
