An overnight explosion at an electrical substation in Russia’s Belgorod precipitated a total blackout in the city, as seen on numerous videos posted by local residents on social media on Sept. 8.

It appears the incident has left the entire city with no power or tap water supply, as electrically powered pumps are used to provide water pressure.

Official Russian sources are yet to acknowledge the substation being taken offline.

“Russians fire at Kharkiv from Belgorod, and given that their missiles have a tendency to fall down on their own heads, I wouldn’t rule out it was a self-inflicted wound,” Ukrainian blogger Serhii Sternenko suggested in a Twitter post.

A Russian missile fell on Belgorod on Sept. 1, seemingly failing shortly after launch. Video footage of the incident was widely shared across local social media accounts.
