The incident was reported at about 3:30 p.m. local time in a high-rise residential block, police said. Preliminary findings indicate that a hand grenade exploded inside one of the apartments. Investigators, explosives experts, and other emergency responders are working at the scene.

On July 12 in Mykhailivka-Rubezhivka, a village in the Kyiv region, a 42-year-old man summoned police on a domestic violence complaint and then threw a combat grenade toward the officers when they arrived. The police opened fire in response, killing the man at the scene.
