The Novokuybyshevsk and Kuybyshevsk oil refineries may have been targeted in an overnight drone attack on Russia’s Samara Oblast, the Exilenova+ Telegram channel reported on Jan. 2, posting eyewitness photos and videos.
A series of at least ten explosions were heard in Novokuybyshevsk. Residents reported seeing bright flashes in the sky and a fire in one of the districts.
Local authorities have not yet commented on the attack.
Rosneft's Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery was targeted at least three times in 2025. After the Oct. 19 strike, the refinery temporarily halted primary crude processing. The attack damaged the CDU-11 crude distillation unit, which has a capacity of 18,900 tons, or about 138,540 barrels, per day.
