From world stage to war zone: Ukrainian tenor killed in Sumy

Vladyslav Horai, a renowned opera tenor and soloist, was killed during his volunteer mission in Ukraine’s frontline Sumy Oblast, the Odesa National Opera mourned his loss on its Facebook on June 8.

"The whole world knew Vladyslav's voice, but his heart belonged to Ukraine. He was not only a talent on stage; he was also an example of strength, dignity, and kindness in life. Even in the darkest times, he did not stand aside — he helped, volunteered, and supported. The Odesa National Opera has been orphaned,” the statement reads.

Colleagues and fans worldwide expressed their shock and paid tribute to his memory.

"It is impossible to believe. Eternal memory to one of the best opera singers in Ukraine!" wrote world-famous Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv in her comments on the post.

Horai had been with the Odesa Opera since 1993, received the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine in 2013, and showcased his talents in more than twenty opera roles across numerous international stages.
