The Russian Black Sea port of Taman is planning to halt liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exports due to the danger posed by drone attacks, Reuters reported on June 2, citing sources familiar with the situation.

According to the sources, Taman port decided to stop processing LPG, also known as propane and butane, due to the hazardous nature of its explosive properties.

"Taman is suspending LPG transhipment as it is dangerous after all those (drone) attacks - the gases are most explosive," said one of the sources.

Two sources also stated that work with LPG would be suspended indefinitely at the Taman loading complex, which has an annual capacity of 20 million tons. Currently, the port is handling its existing inventory of LPG, but there are plans to suspend this activity in the future.

Russian and Kazakh LPG suppliers have announced restrictions on cargo shipments to the Taman port which accounts for approximately 7.5% of Russia's total LPG exports. According to sources, alternative export routes for Russian LPG, including those through Poland and China, are being considered.

On May 3, a large fire broke out at an oil depot near Taman, located about 15 km from the illegally constructed Crimea Bridge, which connects the Taman Peninsula to Crimea.

On May 30, Russia accused Ukraine of attacking Moscow with several UAVs with explosive payloads.
