Some members of former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov’s team may leave the ministry after the Ukrainian parliament confirms Yevhenii Khmara as the new minister, Ukrainska Pravda reported on Aug. 18, citing sources.

Sources told the outlet that departures by Fedorov’s aides could create a staffing problem for Khmara, who, according to one person close to Fedorov, does not have his own team or clear candidates for many senior positions.

“A question now is how Khmara will move forward, given that he won’t have a team and has no one to put in top posts,” the source said.

“Even at the directorate level, I don’t think he has candidates. All the deputies and key managers — that was the best Mykhailo [Fedorov] could leave Khmara.”

Earlier the same day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent Khmara’s nomination to the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada). Khmara has served as acting minister since Fedorov’s dismissal last month.
