According to the report, Turkey is open to negotiations with Slovakia and Russia on the matter.
Erdogan stated that Turkey's foreign minister will reach out to his Russian counterpart to explore the possibility.
"Let’s take a step..; let's reach a conclusion on Slovakia's natural gas needs," Erdogan said during a joint press conference in Ankara.
According to Fico, an alternative solution could be found to supply Russian gas to Slovakia through the TurkStream pipeline, extending through Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary.
Fico announced that Slovakia’s economy minister will visit Turkey next week to discuss gas supply issues.
Gas transit contract between Russia’s Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftogaz expired on Jan. 1. Although this was known several years in advance, Fico has been accusing Kyiv of sabotaging Slovakia’s energy supply, going as far as to fly to Moscow on Dec. 22, where he threatened to halt electricity sales to Ukraine.
