Finland commits troops to Denmark to support anti-drone operations — Stubb

Finnish President Alexander Stubb said Finland fully supports Denmark in its efforts to protect its airspace and counter hybrid actions observed in recent days and weeks.

“To provide concrete support, Finland today decided to deploy a counter-drone contingent to Denmark,” he said.

According to him, the Finnish Border Guard will also provide support with its own forces.

Stubb noted that Finland’s actions are “a great example of concrete cooperation between the Nordic countries.”

“We will continue to coordinate our approaches to countering hybrid threats and contribute to the development of capabilities in Europe,” the president added.

Earlier, on Sept. 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian servicemen in Denmark had begun deploying a mission to share experience in drone defense. He clarified that the military arrived to participate in joint exercises with partners, which could become the basis for a new system to counter Russian drones.

On Sept. 29, U.K. Defense Secretary John Healey said his country was sending counter-drone systems to Denmark after unidentified drones attacked the country’s airports.

On the night of Sept. 23, Copenhagen Airport suspended operations for several hours after drones were spotted within the protected area. Police have not yet determined who launched them.

On the night of Sept. 25, drones were seen over Denmark flying near military facilities. In particular, near Aalborg Airport is an air base where C-130 Hercules and CL-604 Challenger transport aircraft are stationed. Aalborg Air Base is also home to the elite Jægerkorps special forces unit, and F-16 fighter jets are serviced at Skrydstrup Air Base, where drones were also spotted.

On the evening of Sept. 25, Denmark was forced for the third time in a month to close Aalborg Airport after unidentified drones appeared in the sky nearby.
