“It is not a long flight from Helsinki to Kyiv,” Stubb was
quoted as saying.
“We have to get used to the fact that Ukraine has to use all
means to win this war, and this also means different strikes. And Russia will
continue to launch hybrid strikes.”
After the strike on the airfield, which is less than 200
kilometers from the border with Finland, there are no direct threats to the
country, the president said.
Stubb also held talks with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri
Orpo and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson over the attack on the Russian
airfield.
“The main message is that we have no cause for concern in
Finland. We have the situation under control and are able to respond,” said the
Finnish leader.
NV’s sources in military intelligence reported earlier that
drones of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of the Ukrainian Defense
Ministry had hit a Russian long-range strategic bomber TU-22M3 at the Olenya
airfield in northern Russia.
The attack on the airfield, which is located near
Olenegorsk, 1,800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, was carried out
overnight on July 26, the source said.
The UAV strikes also hit an oil refinery in Ryazan, the
sources added.
The HUR drones also attacked two more airfields at night -
Engels in Saratov Oblast and Dyagilevo in Ryazan Oblast.
The strike on the Olenya airfield was a record distance for
Ukrainian drones, Defense Express military expert Ivan Kyrychevskyi
noted.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the
Olenya airfield in Russia’s Murmansk Oblast has been used to launch missile
strikes from Tu-95 and Tu-22 aircraft at Ukraine.
