Russian missile strike on apartment building in Dnipro kills 12, injures 73 (UPDATED)

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Valentyn Reznichenko said that early reports indicated that five people were killed and 40 injured. Twelve children are among the casualties, all of whom were hospitalized. More people remain under the rubble of the building.

As rescue work continued, the death toll crept up, to stand at 12 by late evening. Some 73 people were reported to have been injured, of whom 59 were hospitals, city officials said.

"Absolute savages, at least one entry section (of the building) is missing, there are people under the rubble who were at home on holiday (Ukrainians mark old-style New Year on Jan. 13-14)," the deputy head of Zelenskyy’s administration Kyrylo Tymoshenko commented.

Rescue services are currently working at the scene. They have been joined by more than 100 civilians, who are working to clear the rubble and search for more victims.

Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov says the piles of rubble will take all night to clear. An entire Dnipro district is completely without power and disconnected from critical services.
