"Multiple citizenship should become an element of the state policy aimed at the preservation and development of the world Ukrainian community [worldwide]," said Kuleba.
The official stated that the enactment of multiple citizenships is crucial, as "the focus should be not on fear of distributing foreign passports in Ukraine, but on the influence of the Ukrainian passport in Ukraine and the world."
“Naturally, this policy must be wisely executed, starting progressively with friendly partner nations,” the minister added.
“Of course, it's essential that dual citizenship with states shown to be aggressive or unfriendly is prohibited," he highlighted.
The Ukrainian Constitution currently allows only singular citizenship.
On Dec. 1, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced he would introduce legislation that allows for Ukrainian nationals to hold citizenship of foreign countries.
