Countries suggesting Ukraine consider the possibility of a ceasefire do not know how it would clearly work, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy previously rejected a recent proposal by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to consider a ceasefire before sitting down for peace negotiations with Russia.
According to the president, those who advocate for such scenarios have not clearly articulated how a ceasefire would function.
“Nobody has an answer,” said Zelenskyy.
“I'm not accusing anyone, I’m just explaining.”
During his visit to Kyiv on July 2, Orban suggested the idea of a ceasefire to jump-start peace talks with Moscow. Orban argued that Ukraine's peace initiatives "take a lot of time" and therefore "asked Zelenskyy to consider whether it might be possible to do it differently: first ceasefire, then peace negotiations."
"Because a ceasefire could expedite the pace of these negotiations," said the Hungarian PM.
