Previously, RFE/RL reported that the court hearing to set the terms of his detention was postponed to Jan. 22.
On Jan. 20, the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) announced the arrest of the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade. Although the agency did not provide a name, according to NV sources, this referred to Dmytro Ryumshin.
As noted by the SBI, Ryumshin did not respond to systemic infractions within the unit, including numerous directions. Additionally, he was accused of willfully neglecting other official duties.
Ukraine’s SBU security service reported that it was investigating possible corruption within the brigade related to the selection of military personnel for training abroad. They also investigated claims that servicemen could evade their duties through bribery.
On Jan. 20, Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov reported that Ryumshin was detained in Chernivtsi.
In January 2025, issues within the 155th Brigade, which was formed and trained in France, came to light. Butusov reported numerous cases of soldiers leaving the unit without permission, along with a lack of necessary leadership and weapons.
On Jan. 5, Butusov reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took personal control of the situation surrounding the 155th Brigade.
