Former Polish PM Morawiecki launches new movement after criticizing PiS

Development Plus comprises 40 members of Poland’s Sejm and Senate.

“Recently, we have witnessed some very strange party games that are completely unnecessary. We want to look to the future and fight for the well-being of Poles, for a strong army and a strong Polish cultural identity. We do not want to get dragged into party infighting,” Morawiecki said at a news conference in the Sejm.

He also criticized the leadership of Law and Justice, or PiS, arguing that internal conflicts were weakening the party.

Law and Justice leader Jarosław Kaczyński announced on July 24 that more than 30 members, including Morawiecki, had left the party. Onet later reported that the PiS political committee had not expelled Morawiecki or those who supported him.

“Some party procedures are underway. We are not interested in them. Let them do whatever they want. Today, according to some people with Ph.D.s, we are in Law and Justice; according to others, we are not. Is that what Poles care about? Poles care about the fight for a strong Poland, for their wallets, jobs, housing, development, identity, culture and the Christian faith,” Morawiecki said.

Morawiecki added that Development Plus would focus its criticism on Donald Tusk’s “extremely bad” government and highlight what he described as its mistakes, violations and schemes.
