France, UK to present Washington with Ukraine peacekeeping force plan

According to those sources, European officials hope the proposal will convince Trump to provide a “backstop” and logistical support to the Franco-British contingent deployed on Ukrainian territory.

UK Defense Minister John Healey and his French counterpart, Sébastien Lecornu, said military leaders from both countries are working over the next two weeks on details outlining how a Europe-led “coalition of the willing” would help secure Ukraine’s airspace, coastline, and land while also assisting in restoring Ukrainian forces.

Officials in London and Paris expect the plan will demonstrate Europe’s serious intent to invest its own resources into Ukraine’s postwar future and will persuade the Untied States to be involved in the security arrangement, even if it means no U.S. troop deployment.

Fifteen coalition countries have already offered to provide military assets, including aircraft, naval vessels, and other military equipment, although only a relatively small number have committed to sending troops, Bloomberg’s sources said.

“President Trump has resisted providing Kyiv with security guarantees since the plan for a European-led security force was first floated two months ago,” Bloomberg reported.

Earlier the same day, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told allies that while he welcomed enhanced European support for Ukraine, the Trump administration’s position remained unchanged, according to people familiar with the matter.
