G7 leaders at the June 15-17, 2025, summit in Canada expressed support for a just peace in Ukraine, signaling robust backing and urging Russia to end its war, head of the Ukrainian President’s Office Andriy Yermak said on Telegram on June 18.

The Canadian prime minister's statement following the summit also said that the countries support U.S. President Donald Trump's efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. The countries noted that Ukraine has agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, and Russia must do the same.

The G7 countries also declared their determination to use all possible tools to put maximum pressure on Russia, including financial sanctions.

Yermak called the summit’s outcome a “powerful signal” that “Ukraine has support” while Russia must halt its “terror,” thanking G7 for leadership.

Earlier on June 18, it was reported that the G7 summit ended without an official communiqué due to disagreements with Trump, who demanded softer language on Ukraine and Russia. Support for Ukraine was mentioned only in the statement of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as chair.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the G7 summit in person, where he was supposed to meet with Trump. However, on June 17, the American leader decided to leave the G7 summit early and return to Washington due to the situation in the Middle East.

Later, media reported that Zelenskyy had also cut short his visit to Canada because of the Russian army's overnight strike on Kyiv, as well as Trump's departure.
