Scholz noted that Berlin has abandoned long-standing German policy to not send weapons into active conflict zones.
“We delivered whatever we had: anti-tank and anti-aircraft systems, mines, guns, tons of ammunition and non-lethal aid,” said the chancellor.
“Since then we have moved to more complex and high-value systems. Self-propelled howitzers, Multiple Launch Rocket Systems, anti-aircraft systems, counter battery radar.”
Some of the weapon systems Germany sends to Ukraine are cutting-edge, with certain models “have not even been introduced in the Bundeswehr,” according to Scholz.
Germany also trains Ukrainian troops, and will continue to provide security assistance to Ukraine for as long as it’s necessary, the chancellor concluded.
German newspaper Die Welt said in an article published on July 19 that Scholz has “reduced Germany's military support for Ukraine despite promises to the contrary.”
