Olaf Scholz attributes Germany's ruling coalition's popularity dip to Ukraine support

"This is reflected in the election results, but I think there is no alternative to change this now," Scholz said.

In the recent European Parliament elections, Scholz's Social Democratic Party came in third with 14% of the vote, while the pro-Russian Alternative for Germany party came in second with 15.9%. The opposition Conservative Christian Democratic Union secured first place, receiving 29.5% of the vote.

On June 10, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen promised to build a "broad majority for a strong Europe" with pro-European and pro-Ukrainian parties in the European Parliament.
