Dobrindt said the conclusion that Russia was involved was based on the results of a police investigation, the nature of the crime, and intelligence findings.
“Taken together, the police investigation, the nature of the crimes and intelligence indicate Russia’s responsibility for the attempted terrorist attack at Leipzig Airport,” Dobrindt said.
He said the German government had concluded that Moscow was behind the “hybrid attack” in Leipzig on Aug. 4.
Dobrindt said the direct perpetrators likely were “low-level agents.” He added that the method used in the attack “fits the established pattern of Russian operations.”
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that, in response to the attempted attack, Berlin would close Russia’s general consulate in Bonn and the Russian House organization in the capital. Germany also plans to increase pressure on Russia’s shadow fleet.
“I have ordered that the Russian ambassador be summoned. We
will not allow ourselves to be intimidated by Russian attacks,” Wadephul said.
