Germany braced for potential Russian sabotage at NATO airbase — report / The New Voice of Ukraine

German intelligence was reportedly preparing for a possible Russian sabotage attempt at an airbase in Geilenkirchen, where the alert level was raised last week, German news agency DPA reported on Aug. 26, citing sources within German intelligence services.

According to an article in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, German security services received credible information from foreign intelligence regarding a potential Russian act of sabotage against the NATO base using a drone.

Last week, the second-highest alert level was in effect for nearly 24 hours due to the potential threat at the airfield in Geilenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Since nothing occurred, the precautionary measures were downgraded by last Friday.

Additionally, according to security sources, a person from the vicinity around the airbase was detained for questioning, but suspicions against this individual were not confirmed.

The NATO airbase in Geilenkirchen hosts the AWACS (airborne early warning and control) aircraft, which comprises 14 Boeing 707 planes.
