Germany conducts first successful ballistic missile test

The German military has successfully tested an Israeli-made ballistic missile in the North Atlantic, as Europe is rushing to rearm, Reuters reported on Sept. 2.

German Navy commander Jan Christian Kaack said the test was successful.

“In terms of protecting ‌Germany and our allies, this test marks a new chapter in deterrence and maritime defense readiness.”

Reuters added that Berlin is participating in several multinational projects to develop ballistic missiles and is also considering options to acquire such weapons. Germany is also working on a modernized version of its Taurus cruise missile, currently the only weapon in its arsenal with a range of several hundred kilometers. Production is scheduled to begin in 2029.

According to a budget document, the upgraded Taurus NEO will have a longer range, improved electronic countermeasure protection and enhanced navigation and guidance technologies.
