The German
Association of Towns and Municipalities (DStGB) has suggested allowing
Ukrainian nationals to apply for jobs without knowledge of German to facilitate
their integration, German TV news program Tagesschau reported on April 1.
DStGB Managing Director, Andre Berghegger, said that Germany needs to “ignite an integration turbo” to shore up its economy.
“We are still too bureaucratic and inflexible when it comes to labor market integration,” said Berghegger.
“In order to really use the potential for our labor market, we must ignite an integration turbo in Germany. It should be possible to start work without having to complete language and integration courses beforehand”
He added that Germany must be ready for a sustained stream of Ukrainian refugees, with most of those settle in the country being unlikely to return to Ukraine in near future.
