German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Germany might help secure a demilitarized zone in Ukraine if a ceasefire is reached, DW reported on Jan. 19.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Germany, as NATO’s largest European partner, has a responsibility to play a role in the alliance, addressing the potential deployment of German troops to a buffer zone between Ukraine and Russia.
Pistorius emphasized the need for Ukraine’s security measures to prevent future Russian aggression. He also announced plans to visit the U.S. soon to discuss related matters with President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.
“The nominee for U.S. Secretary of Defense has not yet been confirmed, but we aim for a prompt meeting and dialogue in Washington in early February,” he said.
