Ukrainian Patriot radar back in service after Germany repairs damage

In an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Keller said the damaged radar was urgently sent to Germany, where it was painstakingly repaired. Initially, experts had ruled that the sophisticated piece of equipment was completely inoperable and beyond repair, adding that manufacturing a new radar could take years.

However, after consulting with NATO officials in Wiesbaden, German Air Force specialists took on the task of restoring it. They worked 16 hours a day, six days a week, until the radar was back in service.

“In July, the repaired system was returned to Ukraine,” Keller said. He added that last week, Ukrainian forces used this very radar to intercept an incoming aerial target.

Keller, who coordinates NATO military aid to Ukraine in Wiesbaden, noted that the Alliance is not only transferring arms but also providing technical support for maintenance and repairs.

Ukraine currently operates six Patriot systems provided by the United States, Germany, Romania, and the Netherlands. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine is expecting an additional 10 Patriot batteries, since Russia has consistently expanded its missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.
