Germany spends $197 million to rebuild Ukraine’s power grid

“We continue to support Ukraine at the highest level,” Merz said.

“In light of recent events, we have increased this sum [Ukraine aid budget] by an additional EUR3 billion [$3.48 billion]. And now we are providing EUR170 million to help Ukraine get through the winter and mitigate the effects of Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure.” 

He added that support for the Ukrainian people would continue “as long as needed.” The chancellor reiterated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin “must understand that he has no chance of winning this war at the expense of European order, freedom, and peace.”

On Nov. 25, Russia struck energy infrastructure targets in Kyiv and Odesa, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv oblasts. Ukraine’s grid operator Ukrenergo described the attack as the sixth major air strike on power facilities in two months.
