German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that allies would soon discuss security guarantees for Ukraine.

In an interview with Rheinische Post published Jan. 22, he said, “It would be good if the war ended.”

However, he noted that even after the war, Ukraine would need to secure a safe future.

Scholz emphasized that this would involve security guarantees and maintaining a strong army in Ukraine, which “we can equip together.”

“We will discuss this with our allies soon. For now, though, such speculations are out of the question. Nothing should be decided over the heads of Ukrainians. And we are still far from peace,” the German chancellor added.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine hoped to secure strong security guarantees in 2025 and end the war started by the aggressor state, Russia.

On Jan. 2, Zelenskyy expressed that without the United States, any security guarantees for Ukraine would be weak. He cited Israel’s security guarantees as an example.

“If we look at Israel’s security guarantees, we see how they repel 200, 300, 500 missiles without NATO but with the aviation support of allies: the United States, France, and Britain,” Zelenskyy said.
