He added that the government has allocated an additional UAH1.5 billion ($36 million) to bolster defenses around energy facilities in frontline cities.
Zelenskyy made the announcement after meeting with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, saying they reviewed the state of Ukraine’s gas sector, plans to boost reserves, and measures to ensure reliable supply. He added officials have already assembled—and will expand—a reserve of equipment for rapid repairs of energy infrastructure, as Russian attacks are intensifying ahead of the coming winter.
“We agreed that the government will soon adopt a decree preserving the fixed price of natural gas for household consumers,” Zelenskyy said.
“A decision has also been made to impose a moratorium on rolling blackouts in frontline communities. Despite all challenges, we must support the communities that face the greatest hardships.”
On Sept. 25, Svyrydenko announced a government moratorium on electricity and gas cutoffs for debtors near the front line.
On Oct. 6, Zelenskyy warned that Russia will do everything to destroy Ukraine’s domestic gas production, forcing Kyiv to spend vast sums on imports instead.
