Officials now want any remaining drones removed from Greek waters, the report said.
The drone recovered near the island of Lefkada was identified as a Ukrainian Kozak Mamai model, not a Magura, as earlier reported, according to Kathimerini. The paper said the drone was transported on a vessel with no permanent home port that had called in Libya, though Greece’s military general staff considers it unlikely that the drone was launched from Ukraine’s clandestine base in Libya, Greek broadcaster SKAI reported.
A draft of the general staff’s findings has been delivered to PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Kathimerini said parts of the information that helped determine the details were provided by the United States.
Greece’s political leadership will decide next steps. The newspaper said Athens may seek explanations from Kyiv at the highest political level and has already told Ukraine to withdraw any other unmanned vessels remaining near Greek shores.
Athens is also considering raising the issue at the United
Nations to highlight threats to navigation safety and the dangers of
uncontrolled use of maritime drones in peaceful regions, Kathimerini reported.
