“No electricity is currently available in roughly 40 buildings, and we’re looking for technical solutions to reconnect them by other means,” Pop told Ukrainian TV broadcasters.
She noted the overall power situation in the city remains difficult, with emergency outages still in effect, though conditions have significantly improved on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
Pop said it is too soon to predict when heating will be fully restored to the 471 buildings now cold, but specialists are working around the clock.
“It’s hard to give exact timelines because weather conditions complicate the repairs,” she added.
“We’ve expanded the number of resilience hubs near these buildings, and some may have heat restored as early as today.”
Earlier the same day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Kyiv’s preparedness for the Russia-induced energy crisis, saying the capital had done far less than Kharkiv to shore up its systems.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Jan. 13 that the city was short on electricity even for critical facilities. The Energy Ministry later reported that Kyiv and its suburbs were facing the hardest hit in Ukraine’s power grid.
Ukrainian PM Yulia Svyrydenko said that the situation in the capital should improve by Jan. 15–16, provided no further enemy attacks cause additional damage.
