Hungary condemns Russian strike on Ukraine’s Zakarpattia, summons ambassador

“The government of Hungary strongly condemns Russia’s attack on Zakarpattia,” Magyar said at a news conference, according to Telex. He said Foreign Minister Anita Orban (no relation to previous Hungarian PM Viktor Orban) had summoned the Russian ambassador for May 14 morning.

Ukrainska Pravda noted that Orban’s predecessor, Peter Szijjarto, never summoned the Russian ambassador after previous attacks on Zakarpattia, a decision that drew criticism from other European states.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Hungary for what the concern and a “firm stance.”

Orban said impacts were recorded at several locations in Zakarpattia, including infrastructure near Svaliava and an industrial facility in Uzhhorod.
