Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has criticized EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell for supporting the removal of restrictions on Ukraine’s long-range strikes on Russian territory.

“The fury of the High Representative [Borrell] must be stopped,” Szijjarto wrote in a Facebook post on Aug. 29.

The minister believes that if Ukraine is given more weapons and permission for “deep strikes” on Russian territory, the risk of escalation will increase, and the war will become even more devastating.

“We do not want more weapons in Ukraine, we do not want more deaths, we do not want the escalation of the war, and we do not want the crisis to expand to the Middle East,” said Szijjarto.

“Today, we continue to advocate for common sense and peace.”

On Aug. 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that if Western partners lifted all restrictions on the use of long-range weapons on Russian territory, Ukraine would not have needed to launch its offensive in Kursk Oblast.
