International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi will visit Russia’s Kursk Nuclear Power Plant next week to assess the situation at the site, the IAEA press office announced on Aug. 22.

According to the statement, Russia informed the IAEA that drone debris was allegedly found on the territory of the Kursk NPP. Moscow claims that drone fragments were discovered approximately 100 meters from the spent nuclear fuel storage facility. The drone was allegedly shot down on the morning of Aug. 22.

During his visit, Grossi will evaluate the situation at the site and discuss further activities that may be needed to assess nuclear and physical security at the Kursk plant, the IAEA stated.

Earlier on Aug. 22, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin claimed that the Ukrainian military attacked the Kursk NPP. Putin said that the IAEA was “informed” and had promised to “send specialists to assess the situation.”

According to a report by Bloomberg, Grossi will travel to Kyiv after visiting the Kursk NPP.
